The Heart Chakra

Waking up at Devils Tower this morning and the moon is still hanging out as the sun lights up some fast-moving clouds. This sky and spectacular monument fill the heart with love, compassion and gratitude for the universe.  I got out here early to beat the crowds and heat.

My first encounter with Devils Tower was the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind.  Aliens and humans connecting, communicating and saying “goodbye, enjoy your trip”.  Now alien flicks end with explosions and some lifeform being exterminated.  The alien visitors today are climbers hauling ropes to summit the Tower.

This is truly sacred ground.  Native American tribes have been and still perform rituals and ceremonies here.  The rock or butte was called “Bear House”.  The legendary tale is three girls where being chased by a bear when the great spirit lifted the rock.  The girls were elevated, and the bear couldn’t climb the tower.  The story is on a sign I’m reading along with a formidable looking man.

Unnerving might be the polite way to describe standing this close to such a daunting individual.  A good test for the Heart Chakra.  I hope his is in tune.

As we move up the gears of the Chakras, we increase our net worth.  The first three wheels have a connection to the Earth and form the base that begins to connect to the Universe.  I know smoke another one, right?  Dude, the heart is where we connect to spirit and the higher self.  And now the gravely voice of the spooky biker, “good morning”.

Really, he doesn’t look any different from so many bikers wandering around this morning.  This place will be filled with brothers just like him.  Wouldn’t be able to identify him in a line up and he looks like he’s been in one.  He introduces himself as “Bigfoot”.  I let him know I didn’t think he was real.  “People don’t believe in me but I believe in them.”  Ohhhh NO!  He’s a Biker for Christ.  The largest motorcycle gang (sorry club) at Sturgis.  I’ve had run ins with these guys before and Trigger has been blessed.

Looking at Bigfoot you’d lump him in with any other frightening bikers.  He gets that a lot.  I’m open to most folks and value the interaction.  Conversations with listening and understanding are hard to come by these days.  Bigfoot and I decide to solve the worlds problems by having one, a conversation.

Neither of us are interested in joining the others club but find plenty of common ground for discussion.  Love, compassion and gratitude are attributes of the Heart Chakra and most Christians.  We have many of the same moral convictions and varying police convictions.  Topics come up quick with Bigfoot.  He’s been pushing God for some time and he’s on point this morning.  Aliens, higher power, the Universe, motor oil, are there really buffalo running around here?  Between his god and my universe, we determine our motorcycles may not be on the same path toward enlightenment.

It’s difficult to maintain a spiritual path when the hot engine between your legs spews flames.  My Harley isn’t peaceful or serene.  She barks with unwholesome emotion.  She even looks jealous right now and leers as I shake hands with Bigfoot.  He gives her a quick “Our Father” and peace out.  Triggers Heart Chakra needs an oil change.

In order to survive on a motorcycle, you have to love yourself and have compassion for the people around you.  Bigfoot might look like he’s going to flip your car over in traffic if you get too close.  He’s a big, God loving Teddy Bear.

My Harley might yell at you when you start to get in her lane but she’s learning transformation and forgiveness.  Maybe a bikini bike wash will rinse away the negativity.
